Meal deliveries with added festive charm
THE Meals on Wheels team are delivering an extra special Christmas package for clients this week, with the addition of cards made by Atherton kindy students.
MoW president Bill Morris said about 150 cards were created by the children to cater for the Christmas meals to be delivered on 15 December.
“It’s the first time we have done this, yes. It came out of the blue, from the Kindy itself,” he said.
The cards will accompany a Christmas hamper-styled meal, with a Lions Club Christmas cake and “other Christmassy-type goodies”, Mr Morris said.
It will be a busy day for the organisation with about 150 volunteers rostered to help prepare and deliver the meals.
“We’ve delivered 26,000 meals this year and demand has gone up over the last three weeks by about 90 actual meals,” Mr Morris said.
The number of clients had also grown by about 30, perhaps because of a new cook whose meals have “really taken off”.
“It’s good value, you get really decent-sized meals, three courses, for just $16.”
Mr Morris said an added bonus was last week’s donation from the Jubilee Christian College of jars of honey, some for the volunteers, and a bulk supply for cooking.
