Major upgrade for netball courts
WITH the season at a close, the Mareeba Netball Association is now poised for a transformative facility upgrade to pave the way for year-round netball and safer night games.

The upgrades include a roof over the existing courts, new lighting to improve visibility and safety during evening games and training, and the installation of a public address system to elevate the professionalism of hosted events.
“These enhancements will make our courts safer and more accessible, allowing us to grow participation and provide more inclusive opportunities within our community,” club president Pauline Sciani said.
The association is one of 290 organisations across Australia selected to receive funding for upgraded facilities, participation programs, and essential equipment, aimed at supporting women and girls in sport through the Federal Government’s $200 million Play Our Way program.
In addition to the federal grant, the project has received a co-contribution of $200,000 from the Mareeba & Dimbulah Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank, Ms Sciani said.
“The bank has been a longstanding supporter of the association and played a key role in the original construction of the netball courts,” she said.
“To have Bendigo Bank onboard once again is truly incredible.”
The upgrades are expected to foster greater community engagement, attract new players and volunteers, and ensure the facility remains a vibrant hub for sport and social connection in the region.
