Final fun and colour to fill the streets
ALL the colour and sounds of a parade will fill Main Street in Atherton on Saturday evening as the Maize Festival comes to an end.
A highlight of the festival calendar, the parade will once again bring creativity and excitement to the town, with the fun to start from 4.30pm with free face painting for the kids.
As part of the event, a lolly cannon will be at Priors Creek Parklands at 5pm. From 5.30pm, Atherton State High School Music Academy will be performing in Main Street.
With a theme of Back to the 80s, the street parade, which does two laps of the main thoroughfare, sets off at 6.30pm.
There is still time to nominate a float for the parade, with entries closing on Thursday. To enter, go to the Maize Festival website.
The grand finale of the festival will include the crowning of the Maize Festival Queen, with quest entrants Josepheene McKendry, Sascha Micola von Ferstenrecht and Emily Bensillum all hoping to win the title.
Maize Festival Princess Amelia Smith will also be in attendance.
After the street parade, In2Dance will perform, there will be a tug-of-war and the results of competitions will be announced.
Prizes for the best local business float, best vintage or class car, best community float, best tractor or machine, best school float and overall best float will also be presented.
