THE cricket season is officially in full swing, with the Atherton Cricket Club taking on Norths in the first round at the weekend.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Atherton managed to put 135 runs on the board through 39 overs. However, it was not enough to come away with the win, with the opposition chasing them down after 23 overs.
High scorers for the local side included opening batsman Alex Nasser (30 from 42, including five 4s), Brad Best (29 from 40, including three 4s) and Lachlan Hollitt (30 from 56, including two 4s).
Meanwhile, bowlers Cam Davis and Brandon Green took two wickets each, while English international Will Sowray took one for himself in his first match for the club.
This Saturday, Atherton play host to Barron River at Loder Park from 12.30pm. Meanwhile, the Bandits will host Norths for their first match of the season at Borzi Park from 12.30pm.
